They say good things happen in pairs and this week saw good fantasy things happen in pairs of pairs.
Jimmy looks at some good four-tune that befell some of your players this week.
Reggie Bush, Saints – He has played well, but not found the endzone much so far. That changed Sunday when the stud running back crashed across the goal line four times in the Saints 34-10 rout of the 49ers.
Viktor Kozlov, Islanders – Where did the heck did that come from? Kozlov continued his surge back into your fantasy good books with four goals Sunday against the hated Rangers. In case you weren’t watching at home, that makes 11 goals, 20 points, +10 and only eight penalty minutes for the lanky Russian.
Trent Green, Chiefs – OK, so he sat out most of the season resting his concussed noggin. And so it was only against the Browns. But Green looks to be back and worthy of fantasy football consideration after throwing four TDs and accumulating 25 fantasy points on Sunday. And no, for all you smartypants out there, Jimmy did not have him in his lineup, but he got decent mileage from Vince Young.
Vince Young, Titans – Will go for his fourth straight win Sunday against the Texans. He is emerging as a fantasy stud who should be snapped u in keeper leagues pronto. And those wins the past three weeks? They were against the Colts, Giants and Eagles. Who would have dared to predict in the preseason that the Titans would sweep that part of the schedule? Not even wise old Jimmy.
LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers – For once, he did not get four touchdowns.
Adam Eaton, Phillies – There are lots of fours to consider here, although it is not a four-year deal and not for $4 million a season. As in, four what reason would the Phillies do this? He is 54-45 lifetime with a 4.4 career ERA. And he was on the DL four most of last season in Texas. Still, with teams desperate for pitching, the former No. 1 pick by the Phils gets $24.5 million over three years. That’s $4 million for the first half and $4 million for the second half.
Joe Pavelski, Sharks – OK, so who is this guy and why does he have four goals in his first five games? The Wisconsin native and Badger graduate is tabbed as a solid second-line centre in many scouting reports, but nobody expected it to happen now. Notice also that he wears No. 53, the numbers on either side of 4. OK, now we’re getting silly.
Florida Gators – Last week, the Gators were No. 4 in the AP and BCS college football polls, but an upset loss by USC at UCLA and the Florida’s victory over Arkansas in the SEC title game vaulted them into second place. It was a timely leapfrog, as they will now face Ohio State in the national title game Jan. 8 in Glendale, Arizona.
Florida Gators – OK, this time the hoop Gators. The defending national champs are ranked No. 4 after their loss last week against Kansas and now they are halfway to four losses with an ugly upset loss to Florida State. Some experts didn’t think the experienced and talents Gators would lose four games all year.
Andy Hilbert, Islanders – Managed a +4 rating against the Rangers mainly by being on the ice with Kozlov during his little goal romp. (So, with five assists, no goals and even plus/minus rating, Hilbert is no fantasy jewel, but the theme here is four, so work with me a little, will ya?)
Jimmyville Jackals – It was a four-gone conclusion that Jimmy would win his head-to-head football fantasy battle this week. He had plenty of favourable matchups to choose from and he got touchdown catches from T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Antonio Gates and Donald Driver and still had Brian Westbrook going Monday night for the Eagles.
If Westbrook gets nine fantasy points, Jimmy will win the week by a 44-point margin.
OK, Jimmy is done and you are tired of his silliness.
In the meantime, watch the baseball meetings for free agent signings and trades and we’ll review that next week.
Stay busy, stay lucky, stay silly.
